Jennifer Anson, Coordinatorof the Palau National Security Office, gave a presentation at a conference on security organized by an Indian institute, focusing on the just released National Security Strategy. At the same conference, Mr. Tevita Motulalo (Senior Researcher, Royal Oceania Institute) of Tonga spoke on an interesting subject.

The relationship between Japan and Tonga dates back to the 1800s, the Meiji Era. King Kalakaua of Hawaii had a Pacific Rim concept that included Japan and the Polynesian kingdoms of Tonga and Samoa, which is the origin of the present Blue Pacific. This is a story that Yohei Sasakawa seems to like, so please be careful. Ryoichi Sasakawa dangled Tupou IV in the airport project, and Yohei insulted Tupou V.

King Kalakaua quietly visited Emperor Meiji in the middle of the night and proposed a Pacific Rim concept that excluded Westerners who were bullying the Hawaiian Kingdom at the time. He even proposes marriage between members of the Hawaiian royal family and members of the Imperial family.

I read the details of this proposal a long time ago. It was translated into Japanese under the title of "King Kalakaua's Travels to Nippon. I thought it was a Japan-Hawaii alliance concept, but it was the Pacific Rim. The English text is.

"Around the world with a king"

by William Armstrong, a member of the cabinet of Kalakaua, the last king of Hawaii. 1904

Tevita Motulalo(Senior Researcher, Royal Oceania Institute)興味深い事を話していた。

"Around the world with a king"
